Never standing in front of a closed store...

For all the people begging and bugging me to bring a delete-button into the vegan guide: I will never do that. But i\'ve got something better: A this-place-is-gone-button. Right.

Now you can mark places as closed, so people using this vegan guide will never again (or at least less frequently) stand in front of a closed shop or restaurant. And the people searching for their most-loved place will notice it\'s gone. Right before they book a flight. Because the description page is still here and it has now a big red warning sign above it if the place is gone.

Its magic. Its awesome. Dadada. Does anyone actually read this?

Introducing: The veganguide developers API

Months ago someone asked me to provide an API for veganguide.org, so he could build an iPhone app for mobile access to your nearest vegan restaurants. I remember we had great plans, but i hadn\'t the time to do something within the next days, weeks, months... until now. Yep, here it is: The veganguide developers API.

I know it\'s just a basic set of methods and it does not provide all the functionality we dreamed about yet. But hey, it\'s a start. Enjoy!

Ja, leider ist im vergangenen Jahr nicht viel passiert. Mir schwirren zu viele andere Projekte auf meiner To-Do-Liste herum. Trotzdem habe ich gerade im Moment ein wenig Zeit und arbeite an ein paar tollen Ideen und korrigiere dies und jenes.

Bremen und Dresden

Ansonsten will ich mal einen Tipp abgeben, für alle, die in Dresden unterwegs sind: Das Electric Lotus hat ein überwiegend veganes Angebot, ist günstig und lecker, steckt aber derzeit in finanziellen Schwierigkeiten. Wenn ihr daran interessiert seid, vegane Kultur in der Neustadt zu fördern, dann geht dort essen!

Vielleicht habt ihr es schon bemerkt, bei den verfügbaren Sprachen sind Französisch und Polnisch hinzugekommen. Das liegt daran, dass Marc von vegan.fr und Jule aus Kraków bei der Übersetzung helfen. Vielen Dank!

Wenn nun auch du motiviert bist, den Veganguide in einer weiteren Sprache verfügbar zu machen, dann melde Dich!

Ansonsten habe ich die Eintragung von neuen Orten überarbeitet. Dann kann der fünfhundertste Eintrag ja kommen :)

Hilfe gesucht

Ja, wahrscheinlich habt ihr bemerkt, dass sich hier leider nicht viel tut. Ich habe derzeit eine Menge zu tun, und komme nicht dazu, dieses Projekt weiter zu führen. Das soll nicht heißen, dass veganguide.org eingestellt wird — im Gegenteil!

Der größte Arbeitsbereich derzeit ist die Internationalisierung der Webseite, aber auch die Implementierung neuer Ideen (und davon gibt es einige), die Entwicklung von Kommunikations- und Communityfunktionen sowie die Verbesserung der Barrierefreiheit steht an.

Wer Zeit und Lust hat, sich an der Weiterentwicklung der Webseite zu beteiligen, ist eingeladen, mitzuhelfen. Geld gibts dafür keines, aber dafür die Möglichkeit, die Welt ein bischen besser zu machen ;-)

Wer mitmachen möchte, sollte fließend PHP sprechen, mit SQL vertraut sein und ein wenig AJAX im Blut haben. Kenntnisse der WCAG sind von Vorteil. Bewerbungen an info@veganguide.org

Nur ein paar Kniffe

Ja, die Bilder auf den Profil- und Eintragsseiten sind nun anklickbar und vergrößern sich beim Draufklicken mit Hilfe von ajax. Die Übersetzung ist ein wenig vollständiger, die Arbeiten dauern aber immer noch an. Ansonsten haben wir an ein paar Schrauben gedreht um die Benutzbarkeit der Seite noch weiter zu verbessern.

Demnächst werden wir viel an der Benutzerfreundlichkeit und Internationalisierung der Seite arbeiten.

Yeah, images on profiles and place sites are now clickable and will zoom with some ajax. translation is a little more complete but still work in progress and we have twisted some screws to improve usability.

next time we will do a lot of usabilty and internationalization enhancements.
